Lakehouse deck and floor

At last I've finished the deck for the lakehouse. I'm quite pleased with the weathered look to the boards - the grey and yellow seem to go well together.
The floor installed - it was a fight but I won :))
I ended up using Aleene's Tacky Glue (thanks for the suggestion, ladies) and weighting it down with heavy stuff (bags of cutlery is very effective!) on a thick oven tray, as well as clamping the front edge under a metal ruler. I kept pushing the back edge down with my fingers through the drying process, every ten minutes for an hour.
It has very slight ripples, but nothing that well-placed furniture and rugs can't cover ;)

Next time I use this veneer I'll do the flooring first, before building the kit. Then I'll be able to get at all the edges to flatten them properly. The attic in this house was particularly difficult to get the floor into the corners.

Now my little supervisors are asking 'where are the stairs?'.

  1. I like the grey, too. It sets off the yellow very nicely. And, the floors look great! Your hard work paid off! :D

  3. Determination + suggestions from friends + clever thinking on finding suitable weights = great floor! You must be so relieved to have that down. I like the grey and buttery yellow too :)

Do Poppets really need stairs??? Can't they do that Star Treck thing and just "pop" themselves from one place to another - isn't that why they're called POPpets??

  7. Norma - poppets probably could 'beam themselves up' to the attic, but they won't do that if a human can be put to work!

Ewa - I have the stairs ready but need to put in a short dividing wall first.

Ira - yes!! :D I smirk every time I see it!

  9. OOOOOOOH, I am in love with that deck! Did you weather that yourself? I have always wanted one in real life :). I have one in my old place. I miss being able to sit with the balcony windows open on a rainy afternoon.

Your house is going to be so wonderful :).

  12. I hate stairs! They always have a slope unlikely and steal a lot of space! I agree with Norma on the idea of using teleportation to access upper floors :-)
The floors seem very nice, in tune with the exterior color.
    As usual, great job!
    Mini hugs, Flora

  16. Thankyou, ladies!

Sans - the weathering was just a wash of very dilute black acrylic paint on incised basswood.

Flora - I agree about stairs - they are space-stealers, but necessary, unfortunately. Perhaps we should install old fashioned wrought-iron elevators in our houses . . .

Nina - it was your flooring tutorial that encouraged me to get this house going - thankyou!!. I messed up my own floor a bit, but as this is my first house, it's all going down to Experience, and I'm loving the process!

I agree with Sans about the deck.....I too had a fabulous one at my old house and I miss it.... the grey and yellow are a beautiful combination! I can't wait to see how this house develops.... it is so much fun to see other peoples processes and creativity!

  18. Tanto trabajo ha valido la pena. Esas imperfecciones que tu ves tambien estan en las casas reales de tanto pisar. El color muy acertado. Las escaleras, viendo el hueco, no tardarás en ponerlas, me imagino. Clara

Ohh...an old fashioned wrought iron elevator ... yes please...even if I do live in a bungalow :-)
