Woo hoo! I never thought that I'd reach this stage - a project that I can (almost) say is finished to my satisfaction. Yet here it is, my first miniature dwelling - The Finnish Lakehouse :)
So, welcome!! There is a barbeque sizzling on the deck, the gentle twilight is working its magic, and the lake and forest surround us with their captivating beauty.
The facilities are basic, but it's nice to cook and eat outdoors!
If you stay late and can't manage to row the boat back, you're welcome to sleep on the sofa, or on the deck under the midsummer twilight.
The lady who lives here inherited her bedroom furniture from her beloved grandmother who taught her to love the peace of the natural world. She likes to read quietly when it rains.
She has found places for the handcrafted ceramics and glassware which she loves. She made all the rugs herself.
Today her friends helped her to gather mushrooms and blueberries in the forest. You can see them on the deck, as well as in the kitchen.
My first house - yay!! Happiness here :))
Thanks to all those craftspeople and mini artists whose work is inspiring!
And I wouldn't have done this without your kind comments, help and encouragement, my blogland friends!!
Glenda
Your first?????? WOW Glenda, you did brilliantly! I know I've said it before, but I really, really want that house (I mean a 1:1 scale version of it, lol). What an adorable and cozy little home that would be.
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful! And so serene! I love your choice of bare wood furniture and the natural colors of the fabrics! I admire anyone who can say they have "finished" a house! Someday I hope to be able to say the same for at least ONE of my houses! Thank you for inviting us in...... and I think it will be too dark to row back across the lake, even with the full moon shining... we will have to catch some fish to fry up for breakfast!
ReplyDeleteIt is just beautiful Glenda! I really like the natural wood colors. I told you before... I would love to live in a 1: 1 version too.
ReplyDeleteYou should be VERY proud of it. :-)))
OMG, Glenda!!! This house is simply exquisite!! This is your FIRST?? I am in awe. I also love the natural wood colors. When can I move in???
ReplyDeleteGlenda, Your First house came out so wonderful!! I love the "modern" look of it and the furniture choices that you made! There are so many little details to take in! Love it! Where did you get this kit for the beach house? I really love the style of it and this is about the third one that I have seen on different blogs! They are really darling buildings!
ReplyDeleteGlenda, it's absolutely beautiful. Wonderful, detailed work. Can I live there, too?
ReplyDeleteThanks, ladies!! I hardly ever actually finish something - this is unusual for me :)

Glenda
Blast!! I've just seen that something has fallen over in the living room - this plagued me when I was photographing, it happened four times and I had to keep re-doing it. Does this happen to anyone else? I know I should have got the tacky wax out . . .
ReplyDeleteGlenda
Gorgeous work, Glenda! I've so enjoyed watching the progress on this house. Your green rya wall hanging and the flower painting are especially beautiful! You've created something so modern yet warm and inviting with just enough accessories added for great realism. My mini self is packing up for a vacation and heading straight there for a visit. I'll see you soon! :]
ReplyDeleteO wow, Glenda :). This is very well done and now I think I know what your style is . Clean lines, no fuss, neat. I think you have really captured the Finnish Gustavian house of a lady who loves to read on a rainy afternoon :). It is a rainy afternoon here :) and I so enjoy reading your post right at this minute. I want to ride there now in my one way boat, sink it and be a permanent resident :). Be sure to send food :).
ReplyDeleteI was looking at how you hang those pieces on the wall. I can barely make out any pins. Well done! And yes, I blu tack all my things to the house so they don't fall off. It's tricky when you want to make those wax as invisible as possible :). Which piece fell ? The one on the kitchen floor? Cos everything in the living room looks intact.
This is a very very wonderful lakehouse Glenda. Very good work. The barbeque outside is so cute.

Glenda ... I feel excited as if you were born the first child (well ... almost)!
ReplyDeleteI love this lake house :-)
Everything is in perfect harmony, there is no jarring detail, and show your soul delicate and sensitive, your desire for a life serene and bright.
The environment that I prefer is the veranda: makes you want to relax.
You can certainly be regarded as proud and satisfied :-)
Mini hugs, Flora

ReplyDeleteIt's so gorgeous- I can't even pick out a favorite part because I keep seeing more and more every time I enlarge the pictures. I love the watch on the couch- the gorgeous rya wall hanging and the little honey pot spilled in the kitchen-I could go on and on. It's fabulous Glenda!!!
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful Glenda. I have this house undecorated so youve inspired me that I can do something with it and make it gorgeous! Lovely to see modern furniture used, and the occupant is very tidy and organised! Have you got the bug now to move on to more houses? Id say youve done it the right way though, buy one, finish it then move on, not like my dozen or more houses all in states of being half done! Kate xxx
ReplyDeleteWow...Great job on the lake house. I really like it!
