I've got the building bug

My new mini dwelling - the medieval enchanter's tower. Here it is in the dry build.

I'm realising that it takes a lot of thought to do things in the right order - beams, plaster, painting, and so on. Don't want any of those 'oh ****!!!' moments. :)
Hmmm, thatch or tiles? Aged or new? Lighting? Flooring? Decisions, decisions.

Fun!!

The kit is the Toll House from The Doll's House Emporium (here).

  1. I thought it might be one of DHE houses! I also was thinking of this house when started building the office - for a moment I wanted just to use it's windows and door;D Have even more fun!!:D

  2. I am also DHI score, and I know the tower: I'm curious to see your masterpiece.
Of course, the Middle Ages would be perfect, but I'm sure your imagination will amaze us once again!

  3. Wood shingles are appropriate too, they were very common in ancient times before the forest were depleted. We don't see them used on ancient buildings anymore but actually they were used more often than thatch, stone or tile if there were trees in the area.

  6. Thanks, ladies!!

Karin, thanks - I'm torn between thatch and shingles or slates. I haven't seen thatch yet that looks right for what I want, being reed thatch. At the moment I'm experimenting with a native New Zealand plant. It'll take time.

  7. I love that Tower, I have often looked at it. You will make it fabalous. I like the idea of old with wooden shinkles on the roof, a curling staircase, planked floors....
Whatever you decide, it will be great.

  12. My witches house is DHE's Toll House, so you are welcome to look at mine for any ideas.

I originally wanted grey stone inside and out, but that was before I knew about paperclay, so I opted for fibre glass cladding for the outside and real stones.

The roof is a nightmare to make (and get to fit!), so take care and use a good wood glue and Duck Tape!

You must have had your kit a while as they stopped making this fabulous kit some time ago, I am sooo looking forward to seeing yours made. :o))

  16. Michelle - I didn't know that DHE had stopped making this kit - I'd better not mess it up! And yes it had been lying unmade for more than two years. And yes the roof has been giving me second thoughts - I've been thinking that a good thicklayer of thatch might cover any botches :)))
I'm off to look at yours - thanks!

Saludos. Yolanda.
